Black Economic Empowerment

Guqula Holdings (Pty) Limited a black owned and managed company recently acquired 50% of the shareholding in Freight Haul, thus making it a black empowered company in terms of the relevant legislation. The other 50% is held by Mr Paul Botha who continues to run the company as its managing director

Guqula Holdings vision is to be a major BEE player in the Supply Chain Industry. In order to achieve this objective, the company embarked on a two pronged investment program which culminated in the acquisition of shareholdings in other companies operating in the sector and those providing a supporting role to the core business.

Some of these have established representation by way of depots and warehousing facilities in major centres throughout the country.

The immediate benefit arising out of this transaction is that Freight Haul will get access to these facilities and therefore increase its capacity to transact business nationally.

Supporting businesses already acquired are in the tyre and lubricants sectors. The intention is to provide Freight Haul and other companies in the Guqula Holdings group with the services at savings that can be passed on to the customers.

Guqula Holdings philosophy is to be operationally involved in the companies in which it acquires shareholding. The objective of active participation is two fold, namely, to assist the investee company to grow through business development effort of the team, and to ensure the transfer of operational skills from the entrepreneurs to the Guqula Holdings team.

In line with the said philosophy, the team will be getting involved in the running of the business by assisting the company in marketing and business development. In this way the new BEE status will be leveraged to the full for the benefit of the partnership.

It is by growth of the company that other programs in furtherance of the BEE objectives will be implemented, these being;

Employee empowerment through enterprise creation

Skills development

  Preferential procurement
